BE CLEVER (LITTLE BAG)

2011 is the year our redesign of the shoebox is going to be everywhere: from stores to your home. PUMA’s new packaging and distribution system, called Clever Little Bag, reduces materials used for shoeboxes by 65% while water, energy and diesel consumption in manufacturing is brought down by more than 60%. But the Clever Little Bag delivers more rather than less: take your kicks home in it instead of that old plastic bag (275 tons of plastic will also be saved), re-use it for travel, or groceries or? Now your turn to be Clever. More...

Watch the Clever Little Bag movie here.

A NEW VUE OF TIME

Our collaboration with Issey Miyake is now available for all to own or gift (Valentine’s hint)...Named VUE, it presents a new view of time. The watch dial displays only the current hour, while the others fade in and out reminding us of the time that has passed, and the future that is coming.

The watch packaging, a recycled paper cube notepad, continues the notion of discovery by hiding the watch within it’s volume.  Contrary to traditionally wasteful watch packaging, the VUE notepad block can be re-used to write messages...and love notes. More...

SQR - Esquire

We did our own editing for Esquire magazine’s identity. The concept logo is based on an accordion that both edits and reveals additional content: When the cover is folded up the logo reads SQR (which sounds just like Esquire). Once the accordion cover is unfolded the full logo is restored, and panels of paper expand the cover story’s content.  It’s both less and more!

TAP TAP: A NEW ERA IS HERE...

Since the Jambox hit the street, we’ve been busy getting ready for the launch of the latest intelligent headset: ERA.  The Jawbone ERA is the first headset with an accelerometer that allows a simple touch or shake to switch between apps and modes: “Shake Shake®” and ERA goes into pairing mode, “TapTap®” and it answers or ends a phone call.  The geometric surfaces and material layering are incredibly detailed and resemble fine textile...all contributing to the next ERA.

A GIFT FOR ALL

Your friends at fuseproject and Herman Miller are making a gift in your honor to expand the See Better To Learn Better program in Mexico and the world.  The gift of seeing better and learning better helps children stay in school, and reminds all of us to focus on what matters this holiday season.  With love.

DESIGN OF THE DECADE X2! WOW

When 2 team favorites at the studio win IDSA’s prestigious Design of the Decade, we have to share the news.

Jawbone, our venture partner whose brand we built over the last 6 years, has impressed everyone by taking the Gold Design of the Decade for Most Successful Integration of New Technology.

One Laptop Per Child, Nicholas Negroponte’s vision to bring technologically relevant tools to children in the developing world, won the Bronze Design of the Decade for Solution to a Developing World Social Problem.  2 million children have an XO Laptop and every 6-12 year old in Uruguay uses one.

Both of these projects represent what we love most about our work: bootstrapping social and entrepreneurial spirit mixed with design that makes a difference.  So cheers for this decade! And cheers to our partners and friends Nicholas Negroponte at OLPC, and Alex Asseilly and Hosain Rahman at Jawbone!

IT’S BIG, IT’S A GIGATON!

The first winners of the Gigaton Award were announced this weekend...Want to win one? it’s not for the faint of heart: reduce annual  emissions of carbon dioxide and equivalent greenhouse gases (CO2e) by at least 1 billion metric tons -a gigaton- by 2020, and you may join the winners.  The Gigaton Prizes are awarded by Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room and Sunil Paul, founder of the Gigaton Awards.

We designed the award as a literal visualization by capturing pieces of coal inside cast acrylic blocks, and gave the logo an appropriate imposing typography.  Supporting the Gigaton awards is a big no brainer!

See more about the winners here.

THE GIFT OF LIGHT FOR HAITI

For every purchase of our new "Light-Up Haiti" holiday collection, PACT wil donate one solar lantern to a woman in Port-au-Prince.  This gift remedies the lack of lighting in housing camps and helps alleviate a fragile security situation for the women and their children.  So it's not just festive and sweet to give a pair of organic underwear to your friends, it's also helping a community in need.

How can you resist?
