The studio takes a long-term strategic approach to developing and enhancing brands. Its concepts are visual expressions of brand attributes and the entire customer experience. We are fostering change, and supporting the evolution of the brands we work with through positioning strategies implemented in industrial design, packaging, graphics, naming, UI and environmental design. We are currently seeking a creative, design-minded Business Strategist to help answer the questions of "what and why" before budgets are committed to development and engineering and marketing plans are established. The Business Strategist will be a key member of a growing team that helps clients solve critical business challenges, framed by customer insights, competitive advantage, product and brand positioning, and breakthrough thinking.

Responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

• Working directly with clients and other team members to identify and clarify relevant client business and competitive issues and propose specific methods to address them in relation to new product development & brand building activities
• Devising, conducting, overseeing (in some cases), analyzing, and interpreting primary and secondary research
• Working with teams of industrial designers, engineers, and graphic designers on the creative product and brand development process within tight timeframes; feed and catalyze brainstorming and development activities with consumer, competitive, and channel insights
• Actively participating in creative activities to turn business, customer, and competitive insights into breakthrough new product & brand innovations
• Participating in presentations and strategy sessions with senior executives; Making presentations and substantiated recommendations to clients regarding customer insights, product and brand strategy, and competitive scenarios

Required skills/Experience:

• 3 - 5 years of relevant experience in marketing, product design/development, brand management, strategic product planning, strategy consulting, or equivalent
• Strong understanding of, interest in and passion for design
• Experience with major national or international brands a definite plus
• Consulting experience strongly preferred
• Characteristics, track record, and experience trumps education
• Demonstrable experience in conceptualizing new product innovations based on marketing insights
• Detailed oriented and comfortable working to deadlines with minimal supervision
• Demonstrated excellence in verbal and visual communications, with a particular emphasis on visual storytelling; strong information design sense is a definite plus

The intern's role within the product department is primarily to support all areas of design with specific tasks including; document layout and production, research (with image gathering), preparation for presentations.

Essential Functional duties (most important parts of job): Include such activities as supporting the general needs of the industrial design department, providing backup to all levels of designers (from junior designer to creative director), developing and seeing through design from concept to final deliverables, working with entire industrial design staff on projects and seeking out feedback whenever possible.

Specific Skills:

• Must be a junior or senior level industrial design student at a credible school
• Working knowledge of basic industrial design tools and process
• Working knowledge of Adobe's Creative Suite, Microsoft Office, web applications a plus
• Willingness to support all levels of the design staff (ID, graphic design and engineering)
• Great positive attitude with an emphasis on self-motivation and quality of work
• Great communication skills
