de Youngsters Visual Identity
The de Youngsters Studio within San Francisco’s famed de Young Museum, is an interactive environment that connects children to creativity and learnings in a physical and experiential way. Our visual identity for de Youngsters was recently recognized with a Core 77 Award for Visual Communication so we’re taking the opportunity to celebrate and share our work with you.
The visual identity we developed for the de Youngsters Studio is inspired by the structure and the colorful forms within the space. It’s also a clear expression of the delight and engagement children have while creating in The Studio. The space is playful and tactile, with large projections of circular shapes, triangular ceiling elements and colorful fabric strips which create a lively and informal playground for children’s imaginations. The brand identity builds upon the geometric shapes and primary colors inside the space to deliver a visual language that reflects the joy of the de Youngsters experience, yet feels at home in the broader context of the deYoung Museum.
The final result is a dynamic and flexible identity that bring the space to life but is easily adapted to signage, wayfinding, brochures, business cards and other supporting collateral. We think it’s fun, dynamic, and engaging, while being elegant and timeless.
