Yves Béhar – Recipient of the 2020 IDSA Special Achievement Award
We are so pleased to announce that the IDSA Awards Committee and Board of Directors have selected Yves Béhar as the recipient of their Special Achievement Award this year!
The IDSA Special Achievement Award recognizes individuals, organizations, or projects notable for their creativity, innovation, passion or achievement in advancing the industrial design profession. Recipients of this distinction, through their body of work, have garnered attention that spans industry lines and made significant contributions to their industries.
As the Founder and Creative Lead of fuseproject, a design studio known for bringing innovative, game-changing products to market, Yves’ oeuvre has always exuded an elegance of form. To the world, he is a defining industrial designer of his generation, known for creating iconic objects for brands like Jawbone, Herman Miller, Puma, and many others. The objects often also have a socially progressive bent: light fixtures that encourage energy conservation, easy to manufacture (but durable) laptops for children who do not have access to education, and Moxie, a revolutionary robot that provides play-based learning to promote social, emotional, and cognitive learning in children.
He’s had an enormous impact on not just the product world, but design as a whole—integrating advanced technology, systems, and science into objects and environments that run the gamut—from touch free smart locks, to wearable tech, to prefabricated ADUs, to smartbots.
In the studio, Yves is a constant and driving force of design energy—focused intently on the work and inspires fuseproject’s multidisciplinary designers to deliver nothing short of the best of their abilities. In a discipline defined by curiosity and practiced by—at once—inventive, artistic, and technically minded people, he brings vision to every project and encourages teams to build a relationship between an object and its owner so that each product can serve to positively transform our everyday lives.
Our team at fuseproject looks forward to the opportunity to celebrate this special honor with him, for him. We would like to show him what his contributions mean to us, and what it means to be lucky enough to have a vibrant, dynamic, and endlessly creative studio to belong to each day.
